Twenty-two Salesian Cooperators renewed their promise – Lesotho
Renewed commitment to continue the mission of Don Bosco
During the annual animation visit of AFM Provincial Councilors (Provincial Coordinator: Mr Chester Browne, Treasurer: Mr Cedric Poley, Formator: Ms Kensani Machaba, Mr Vallery Mudambi) to the two local centres in Lesotho, 22 Salesian Cooperators renewed their promise and attended animation meetings in Maseru, Ha Seleso (Saturday, June 15) and in Maputsoe, St Luke (Sunday, June 16). The promise was renewed amidst the parish Eucharistic celebration, attended by hundreds of Catholic faithful.
An ordinary annual animation visit was re-started after the pandemic period break, as a sign of communion within the AFM province of Salesian Cooperators (established in 2018), with five local centres (Cape Town, Johannesburg, Malamulele in South Africa and Maseru with Maputsoe in Lesotho) and 60+ active members. Besides the fraternal sharing among the leadership and local centres of Lesotho) each Salesian Cooperator received a newly published book ‘Educating like Don Bosco’, as new motivation to live their vocation and mission with the same heart of their founder, Saint John Bosco.
The young province with only five centres strives to open new centres in Johannesburg and especially in eSwatini, the third country, still after 70 years of the Salesian presence without any Salesian Cooperator. Their 2024 AFM provincial Congress is scheduled with this intention in October 2024 in Manzini, eSwatini with this specific intention. A good number of Salesian Cooperators are involved in education as teachers, catechists, and instructors or dedicate their time, energy and resources for young people in need.
