VI World Congress 2026: A 150‑year journey toward fruitfulness
The long‑awaited VI World Congress 2026 has begun, bringing together Salesian Cooperators from all over the world under the motto: “To be leaven in order to be fruitful” (Lk 13:20‑21). The first day of the gathering, May 7, was marked by a grateful remembrance of a historic journey and a renewed commitment to the future of the mission.
The day opened with a symbolic gesture focused on the central element of the Congress: leaven. Afterwards, the opening Mass was presided over by the Rector Major, Mons. Fabio Attard, who encouraged participants to become agents of transformation within society.
The official opening ceremony was a moment of great joy and Salesian enthusiasm. In a festive atmosphere, the world councillors from the Association’s 11 regions processed with the flags representing their regions, symbolising the universality of Don Bosco’s charism.
One of the highlights of the morning was the conference “150 years building a better world,” delivered by Fr Fabio Attard. The Rector Major emphasised the impact of the work of Salesian laypeople throughout history. In the afternoon, participants deepened their reflection on this heritage through a presentation on the journey undertaken toward the 150th anniversary of the Association of Salesian Cooperators.
As part of the programme, a round table entitled “In the footsteps of Don Bosco” was held, fostering intergenerational dialogue between former world councillors and young people, represented by a young Salesian Cooperator. To conclude the day, participants gathered in language‑based groups, allowing for closer sharing of each region’s reality.
And, in true Salesian tradition, the day ended with the “Good Night” talk, given by the Salesian Cooperator with the longest‑standing promise present at the event, uniting the wisdom of experience with hope for the future.
