Meeting in the presence of the World Council

We share the daily chronicles of the SSCC of Inter-America about the meeting in the presence of the World Council in Rome, held last week.

First day of the meeting of the World Council of Salesian Cooperators.

This Thursday morning, the meeting of the World Council of Salesian Cooperators began, reviewing and approving issues associated with the Secretariat and Administration.

The World Council will meet from March 14 to 17 at the Mary Help of Christians Institute of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Rome, this is the second face-to-face meeting that the new World Councilors have together with the World Executive Secretariat and the world delegates.

Second day of meeting of the World Council of Salesian Cooperators

The second day of the meeting began with the celebration of the Eucharist together with the community of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of the Institute.

On the first day, documents related to the administration and secretariat areas were presented, the balance for 2023 and some documents that have been managed worldwide regarding the regional executive Secretariats, the Board of Directors and other documents were presented.

In the afternoon, the 2018/2024 six-year period was reviewed, remembering that at the last World Congress some lines of action were defined. The Regions had previously been asked to review these commitments made, this work was carried out by the outgoing and current world advisors, reviewing: what had been done and what was pending, 6 regions presented their report: America Southern Cone, America South Pacific, Brazil, Inter-American, Iberian and Italian Middle East. This day the other Regions will present their report.

At the end of Thursday, the theme of the 150th anniversary was reviewed, presenting ideas for the second year that will begin on May 9 with the theme “Renew.”

Third day of meeting World Council of the Association of Salesian Cooperators

On Friday, the presentations of the missing regions continued on the lines of action for the 2018-2024 six-year period, to see what status they were in. The two regions of Asia were presented, the two of Europe: central and eastern, leaving Africa pending.

After the presentations, there was work in small groups on some elements of interest to the World Council to find out the opinion of the different regions around 4 elements:

  • The participation of delegates at different levels
  • The theme of Amores Laetitia and thematics in general, in relation to family and particular themes that are presented.
  • The continuity of Laudato Si
  • The needs of the Regions in light of what they can find in other regions in order to share and support each other.

Each working group received a visit from Antonio, World Coordinator, Raúl, World Administrator, Carlo, World Secretary, Sister Lucrecia and Brother Dominico, FMA and SDB delegates for the Association, they rotated between the different groups for approximately 20 minutes, with each one a different topic was shared.

Then the organization of the World Congress to be held in 2026 was discussed, agreeing that each commission would have a world advisor.

At the end of Friday, the Via Crucis was experienced in the Church of the Sacred Heart in Rome, they also had the opportunity to tour the facility, having dinner with the community, closing with good night in the Chapel.

This Saturday morning, Africa made its presentation on the six-year term, then the 2024 budget was presented and approved.

Next, each counselor was given a space to present any doubts, questions or queries. Our Regional advisor, Martín Calderón, shared the theme that will be developed in the area of communication from the Region, inviting the other regions to participate.

After lunch, the world council, together with the translators, made a visit to the Apostolic Palace, to know and visit some places accompanied and guided by the Pope’s sacristan.

On Sunday there will be the closing activities of this annual meeting.
