Formative Meeting of Salesian Cooperators – Inter-American Region

Costa Rica – November 2024 – Last Saturday, November 16, the Salesian Cooperators of the Inter-American region held their fourth and final Formative Meeting of 2024 virtually.

Under the inspiring theme “The two columns to be faithful”, Brother Duc Nam Nguyen (Dominic), SDB world delegate for the Association of Salesian Cooperators, gave a presentation that left a mark on all attendees.

The day began with a warm welcome from Juanita Silva, regional formation manager, then Brother Dominic shared his reflection on the importance of walking together on our vocational journey, emphasizing that this involves sharing responsibilities, faith, and the ability to listen to the voice of God, as well as discerning the signs and challenges of our times.

Using the metaphor of a boat trip, Brother Dominic reminded us that, just like in life, we face storms, strong winds, and big waves that can threaten us. Sometimes we feel small and limited in the face of the obvious challenges that arise. It is in those moments when we most need the presence of God and the loving support of our Mother Mary in our journey of faith.

In addition, Brother Dominic presented three models of holiness: Blessed Alexandrina Maria da Costa, Servant of God Vera Grita and Blessed Carlo Acutis, who inspire us to continue forward in our mission.

At the end of the presentation, participants from Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama and the United States shared their reflections on the topic. Messages were also received from Fr. Manuel Gómez, SDB delegate for the region, and from Sister Aracelly Mayorga, FMA regional delegate, followed by some motivating words from Martín Calderón, world councilor for the region.

At the close of the meeting, information was given about the moment of prayer that will be held worldwide on Sunday, December 1st at 2:00 p.m., Italian time. More than 120 people participated via Zoom, along with many more on Facebook, from the 13 countries that make up our region, including the participation of Salesian Cooperators from India and Pakistan.

The opening prayer was led by Chalina Gómez from the Dominican Republic, the closing prayer was led by Jonathan Quesada from Costa Rica.

This Meeting was held in English, with translations in Zoom rooms for Spanish and French, and on three Facebook channels for each of the languages of the Inter-American Region.
