Preparation for Service as Catechists – Mary Help of Christians Parish

During the month of October, the Margarita Bosco Centre in Guayaquil held a day of formation, fellowship, and vocational discernment for aspirants and catechists of Mary Help of Christians Parish.

The activity, held in an atmosphere of Salesian joy, aimed to strengthen the family spirit and the sense of belonging to Don Bosco’s work.

Highlights of the Day:

1. Identity Workshop – “Every Piece Matters”

The central activity was the heart-shaped puzzle exercise shown in the photograph. Each participant wrote their name and commitment on a puzzle piece, which was then joined with the others to form a single heart. The reflection highlighted that the catechetical community is like this heart: if one piece is missing, it is incomplete. Everyone, from the experience of our older brothers and sisters to the energy of young people, is essential to the mission.

2. Formation for the Catechetical Mission

Guidelines for the new catechetical year were shared, focusing on Salesian methodology, preventive accompaniment, and the witness of life. Future catechists were encouraged to be not only transmitters of knowledge but also companions and friends to children and young people.

3. Intergenerational Fellowship

The photograph reflects the richness of our Centre: the unity of generations. We were joined by our brothers and sisters from the Association, married couples, university students, and adolescents from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), who supported the animation and logistics. The festive atmosphere, with balloons and decorations, marked the beginning of this new journey.

We concluded the day with a prayer to Mary Help of Christians, entrusting all our catechists to her care so that, following the example of Mamma Margaret, they may be educators in the faith with tenderness and firmness.

Thank you all for saying Yes to the mission of evangelisation!
