From August 9 to 11, the Cambodia neighborhood was filled with hope and solidarity with the participation of 30 Salesian Cooperators from all over the Dominican Republic in Mission Field 2024. This event, under the motto “The joy of giving and sharing the bread that gives Eternal Life,” was a true testimony of love and service to the community.
During the event, medical services were offered that benefited more than 320 patients, both adults and children, thanks to the support of local doctors and the generosity of Laboratorio Acromax Dominicana, which not only donated medicines, but also sponsored 75 people with medical treatments for three months. In addition, Laboratorios Alfa joined this noble cause, providing its staff and medicines.
The missionaries lived the experience of taking the message of Jesus to the streets, sharing love and hope with those most in need. On Saturday the 10th, the courtyard of the San Juan Bosco School was transformed into a festive oratory, where prayer, music, dances and games filled the atmosphere with joy. Toys and school kits were given to 229 children, brightening their smiles.
The day culminated with a community meeting that brought together 70 people (mothers, fathers, children, grandmothers and aunts) to reflect on the family. Franklin Ortega, Coordinator of the Antillas Province, inspired those present to strengthen themselves in and from Love. The festive celebration was animated by the Don Bosco Music Band, which filled the space with joy and rhythm. And there was also a raffle of prizes for all attendees!
Simultaneously, a group of missionaries worked on the repair and adaptation of a house for a vulnerable family in the sector, using construction tools, paint and decoration to offer an improved home.
This event was organized by the National Consultation of the SSCC of the Dominican Republic and the Local Center Mamá Margarita of Barahona, with the unconditional support of the Salesian Community SDB of Barahona and the 13 local centers of the country.
